Terms of Service

Last updated: September 6, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Datadef ("the Service"), an AI-powered technical diagram generator, you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement. These terms apply to all users of the Service, including anonymous visitors, account holders, and team subscribers.

2. Description of Service

Datadef is an AI-powered technical diagram generator that allows users to create data architecture, system design, cloud infrastructure, and data flow diagrams. The Service includes:

  • AI-powered diagram generation from text descriptions
  • Interactive drag-and-drop diagram editor
  • Data lineage tracking and visualization
  • Wiki documentation for diagrams and projects
  • Export capabilities (PNG, JPEG)
  • Share links, live embeds, and version history
  • Repository sync, which regenerates a diagram from a connected git branch or tag
  • An MCP server, so an AI client you control can create and edit diagrams on your behalf
  • Team workspaces with shared folders and a shared credit allowance

3. Credits, Team Subscription and Payments

There is no individual subscription and no trial period. Every feature of the Service listed above is included on every account, for as long as the account exists. Only AI generation is metered, and it is metered in credits.

  • Scratch Canvas (free, no account): Try diagram generation with a limited number of generations per day, stored locally in your browser
  • Accounts: All features included, with AI generation paid for in credits
  • Credits: Bought as a one-off purchase, with no expiry date and no recurring charge
  • Team workspace: A monthly subscription that adds up to five seats, restricted folders, and a shared credit allowance for the workspace

Payments are processed securely through our payment provider Polar.sh, which uses Stripe for payment processing. Buying credits is a single payment that authorizes a single charge. It does not create a subscription, does not renew, and cannot lapse. Credits are added to the account that bought them, are not transferable between accounts, and are not redeemable for cash. New accounts receive a one-time grant of credits, given once per email address.

The team workspace is a monthly subscription. By subscribing, you agree to pay the applicable fees and authorize us to charge your payment method until you cancel. It renews automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date. Its shared credit allowance is restored at each renewal and does not carry over to the next billing period. You may cancel at any time and the workspace remains available until the end of the billing period already paid for. No refunds are provided for partial billing periods.

Where we refund a credit purchase, whether at our discretion or because applicable consumer law requires it, we may remove the credits delivered by that purchase from the account balance. A refund may be reduced or declined to the extent that those credits have already been spent, since the AI generation they paid for has already been performed. Credits are attached to the account and are lost if the account is deleted or terminated. Cancelling a team subscription, or ending it for any other reason, does not withdraw credits bought separately, which stay on the balance of the account that bought them.

4. AI Credits and Usage

Credits are spent only when the Service runs an AI model on your behalf: generating a diagram, running a detailed generation, applying an AI edit, importing a file into a diagram, and running a repository sync that finds new commits and regenerates the diagram. A repository sync that finds nothing new costs nothing. The number of credits each of these costs is shown on the credits page in your account, and we may change it if the underlying model costs change materially.

An empty credit balance pauses AI generation and nothing else. Your projects, version history, share links, embeds, exports, repository connections, folders, and MCP access continue to work with a balance of zero, and content you have already created stays available and editable. Members of a team workspace draw on the workspace allowance before their own credits.

The free anonymous Scratch Canvas allows a limited number of AI generations per day and requires no account. We reserve the right to apply rate limits and fair use policies to prevent abuse of AI services, including automated or high-volume use that is not consistent with normal use of the Service.

5. User Accounts and Responsibilities

To use Datadef, you must create an account using email/password or OAuth authentication (Google or GitHub). You are responsible for:
