Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about aws diagram tool: describe your stack, get the diagram

How is this different from drawing AWS diagrams in draw.io or Lucidchart?

Those are manual editors: you drag every icon and route every arrow. Here you type what the system is and the AI places the services, picks the official icons, and connects them. You then fix the parts it got wrong by hand or with a follow-up instruction, which is usually faster than starting from a blank canvas. On pricing, Lucidchart and Cloudcraft are per-editor subscriptions; Datadef has a free tier and paid plans when you need more AI generations.

Can it generate the diagram automatically from my AWS account?

No. It does not connect to your AWS account or scan running infrastructure. The input is a text description, pasted IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK output), or a coding agent connected via MCP that reads your repository and draws what it finds. If you need live account scanning, that is a different category of tool.

Which AWS icons does it use?

The current official AWS icon set, 439 icons across compute, storage, database, networking, analytics, and security. The same set is available to download on our AWS icons page if you draw elsewhere.

Is the AWS diagram generator free?

You can generate, edit, and export diagrams on the free plan. Paid plans add more AI generations and team features. It runs in the browser, nothing to install.
