How to use the EC2 icon in AWS diagrams
The EC2 icon stands for the instances themselves, so it belongs wherever compute runs on a virtual machine rather than in a managed service: the web tier behind an Application Load Balancer, drawn as two or three EC2 icons inside the private subnet of each availability zone; an Auto Scaling group, drawn as one EC2 icon with the group boundary around it rather than a dozen copies; batch or worker nodes pulling from a queue; and the bastion host in a public subnet. When the compute is Lambda, ECS or EKS, use those icons instead, since a reviewer reads EC2 as "we manage the OS".
To use it: download the SVG with the button above, then drop it into draw.io, Figma, Lucidchart or a slide. Keep AWS's orange and do not recolour it, so the diagram reads the same way the AWS console does.
